Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer who toured for more than 40 years. London, a torch singer loved for her soft, soothing vocals and smooth contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955-1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her rendition of "Cry Me a River" the song she premiered in her debut album. In addition to receiving a music-related recognition, London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35 year acting career began in film in 1944. It featured parts as the female lead in numerous westerns. In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. The album she released was her last album of studio recordings in 1969 but was able to continue to make a name for herself as the lead female character of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), in which she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
